Summer School participants' field trip to the Suusamyr pastures

From July 14 to 16, a group of participants of the 2026 Global Summer School for Young Pastoralists visited the scenic Suusamyr summer pastures.

From July 14 to 16, as part of the 2026 Global Summer School for Young Pastoralists, a group of participants visited the scenic Suusamyr summer pastures to gain practical experience in sustainable pasture management and traditional livestock herding.
During the field trip, the participants:
— became acquainted with the life and farming experience of local herders;
— took part in working sessions and discussions led by experts from the International Land Coalition (ILC) and the National Land Coalition (NLC);
— explored traditional and modern methods of sustainable pasture management;
— discussed, in small groups, ways to develop the sustainable use of pastures.
Particular attention was paid to hands-on learning. The young pastoralists observed traditional livestock herding methods first-hand and actively participated in field work. In the evenings, they gathered around the fire in an informal setting, exchanged views with colleagues from different countries, and discussed new opportunities for cooperation.
During this field trip, the participants not only gained new knowledge but were also able to see with their own eyes how the principles of sustainable pasture management are successfully applied in practice in Kyrgyzstan.
