The Association of Forest and Land Users of Kyrgyzstan is a voluntary non-profit organization established in 2010 on the initiative of legal entities and public associations to pursue their common goals, objectives, and interests.

KAFLU’s mission is to create conditions for sustainable nature management and the development of entrepreneurial activity in the forestry and agricultural sectors. Our professional organization is focused on advancing the interests of its members, as well as on sustainable ecosystem and natural resource management. We strive to ensure fair access, responsible use, and effective conservation of the environment, in order to create favorable living conditions and reduce poverty in our communities.

 

Engaging local communities, government bodies, and donors is one of the key mechanisms we actively employ in our work. Drawing on years of practical experience, we successfully apply our skills and knowledge in real-world conditions. Burkhanov Aitkul Mustafaevich is a prominent expert and leader in the field of forestry and sustainable natural resource management in Kyrgyzstan.Burkhanov Aitkul Mustafaevich is a prominent expert and leader in the field of forestry and sustainable natural resource management in Kyrgyzstan. He serves as Director General of the Union of Legal Entities "Kyrgyz Association of Forest and Land Users" (KAFLU). Under his leadership, the association works to protect the rights of forest and land users, implement sustainable land management practices, and develop organic production. Burkhanov Aitkul Mustafaevich also serves as Chairman of the Governing Council of the National Land Coalition (NLC) of Kyrgyzstan. He actively participates in land reform processes and the promotion of rural communities' rights to resources. Professional Expertise Sustainable Forest Management: Possesses extensive experience in reforming the forestry sector. Previously held senior government positions, including Director of the State Agency for Environmental Protection and Forestry under the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic. Land Rights and Reform: One of the leading experts on pasture legislation and the integration of Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN) principles at the national level. International Cooperation: Actively engages with global organizations such as the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the Global Environment Facility (GEF), FAO, and the International Land Coalition (ILC), representing the interests of Kyrgyzstan's forestry sector on the international stage. Key Initiatives Under Aitkul Burkhanov's leadership, the following projects are being implemented: FSC Certification: Introduction of international standards for responsible forest management. Organic Production: Development of marketing for wild-harvested products and forest farm produce. Legislative Support: Development of recommendations for improving the Forest and Land Codes of the Kyrgyz Republic. He is widely recognized in the professional community as a advocate for involving local communities in decision-making and for the careful stewardship of mountain forest ecosystems.
